China emphasizes the need to safeguard national stability in South Sudan.

Sun Lei, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, spoke at the Security Council's review of the South Sudan issue on the 6th, emphasizing the need to maintain national stability in the country.

Sun Lei stated that South Sudan will hold general elections at the end of this year, marking a crucial stage in the country's transition process. Maintaining national stability is a fundamental prerequisite. China calls on all parties to remain calm and restrained, avoid resorting to force, and prevent escalation. China supports the South Sudanese government and the UN Mission in South Sudan in continuing to promote inter-ethnic dialogue, implement more confidence-building measures, and promote harmonious coexistence and mutual assistance among the people. China calls on all political parties in South Sudan to act in accordance with the overall national interests and the fundamental well-being of the people, earnestly uphold and implement the revitalization agreement, and properly handle contradictions and build consensus through inclusive dialogue. The international community should play a more constructive role in promoting peace and stability and assisting the South Sudanese people, based on respect for South Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. Sanctions against South Sudan should be adjusted or lifted in a timely manner to avoid undue interference and pressure.

Sun Lei pointed out that South Sudan faces multiple crises, including displacement of people, food insecurity, and devastating floods and diseases. The international community should help the country improve its infrastructure, promote economic diversification, enhance people's well-being in areas such as education, healthcare, and employment, and strengthen its resilience and endogenous development momentum.

Sun Lei stated that South Sudan has just celebrated its 15th anniversary of independence. China sincerely congratulates South Sudan on its achievements in the peace process, nation-building, and economic development. As a good friend of South Sudan, China is willing to work with the international community to firmly support the efforts of the South Sudanese government and people to achieve national reconciliation and lasting peace, and will continue to play a constructive role in this regard.
