Xinhua News Agency reporter Gao Bo
Chula Sumano, Secretary General of the Office of the Eastern Economic Corridor of Thailand, recently stated in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that China is the largest source of foreign investment in Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor, and China's advanced technology and investment are helping Thailand's intelligent and green development.
The "Eastern Economic Corridor" project in Thailand refers to the establishment of special economic zones in the provinces of Chachunsao, Chumphon, and Rayong along the eastern coast. By vigorously developing infrastructure and implementing a series of investment preferential policies, it aims to attract high value-added industries to settle down, develop new high value-added industries, and promote Thailand's economic transformation and upgrading through innovation and technology application.
Zhu La stated that Chinese investment is highly aligned with the development direction of the Eastern Economic Corridor. Technology from China is helping to accelerate Thailand's industrial transformation, promoting the upgrading of traditional industries towards intelligence and green development. At the same time, it is also radiating from Thailand as a base to the surrounding areas and even the world. Zhula introduced that investments from China are mainly concentrated in the fields of new energy vehicles, digital technology, electronics, and semiconductor manufacturing.
Thailand is an important automobile producing country in Southeast Asia, and has vigorously promoted the electrification of the automobile industry in recent years. The Thai government plans to increase the country's electric vehicle production to 30% of the total automobile production by 2030.
Zhula stated that the Thai automotive industry is gradually transitioning from traditional fuel vehicles to new energy vehicles. In recent years, several Chinese car companies have set up factories in the "Eastern Economic Corridor", which not only brings new energy vehicle technology, but also drives supporting enterprises such as parts, batteries, and charging piles to settle in, helping to improve the construction of Thailand's new energy vehicle industry chain and drive the local automotive industry towards green and low-carbon development.
Zhu La emphasized that green development is a global trend, and Thailand is promoting the green transformation of ports. China has technological advantages in areas such as artificial intelligence in ports, and Thailand is willing to deepen cooperation with China to promote the green upgrading of ports.
Jula recently led a delegation to Shanghai to attract investment. He said that every time he goes to China, he gains a lot and is deeply impressed by the investment of Chinese enterprises in research and development and patent applications.
The Thai government has introduced various promotion measures to attract foreign investment, and the 'Eastern Economic Corridor' has tailored a package of incentive measures for enterprises, especially providing convenient services in factory land, employee visas, and work permit processing, "said Zhu La.
2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand and the "Golden 50 Years of China Thailand Friendship". Thailand China relations are as close as brothers, with close exchanges between the two peoples and fruitful achievements in trade and investment cooperation. We hope that more Chinese companies will invest in Thailand, bring more sustainable green technologies and solutions, and inject more impetus into Thailand's economic development, "said Zhu La.
