From July 25 to August 1, at the invitation of the Foreign Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Salvado Ilia, Secretary of the Catalan Autonomous Region of the Spanish Workers' Party and President of the Canadian Government, led a delegation to visit China, visiting Beijing, Anhui and Shanghai, going deep into universities, ports and automobile factories, and personally experiencing the high-quality development achievements of Chinese path to modernization. Ilia praised China's industrial development as "far beyond expectations" and hoped to "deepen cooperation with China" through this visit.

In April 2024, Chery Automobile Company and Spanish company Ebro established a joint venture in the Barcelona Free Trade Zone. During this visit, Ilya announced a cooperation agreement with Chery, which will establish a research and development center in the Canadian region.

Spanish automotive parts company Emos invested in building a factory in Wuhu, Anhui in 2015, providing the necessary components for rearview mirrors, seats, and roof sunroofs for local vehicle manufacturers. During the visit of the inspection team, Cheng Cuiyuanhao, the representative of the Spanish side of Emos Powder Metallurgy (Wuhu) Co., Ltd., stated that the company plans to continue expanding its business in China in the coming years as the Chinese automotive industry chain transitions towards new energy.
Low carbon practices help promote green transformation——
During the visit of the inspection team, Ilya witnessed the cooperation between Barcelona Port and Shanghai International Port Group. The two sides plan to jointly build a green shipping line to ensure the coverage of green energy ships on the sea route connecting Shanghai Port and Barcelona Port, and achieve "carbon neutrality" throughout the process.
Shanghai Port is the world's largest container throughput port, with very high levels of technological application and efficiency. This visit allowed me to witness this firsthand, "said Ilia.
Through the glass windows of the Shanghai SIPG Group conference room, the central control screen displays the real-time operational status of its 14 global air zones and 17 service routes. After listening to the presenter's introduction of Shanghai Port's normalized services in green fuel storage, transportation, and refueling, members of the inspection team expressed that this provides a reference solution for the low-carbon transformation and development of the international shipping industry.
Jose Alberto, President of Barcelona Port in Spain, stated that approximately 80% of Chinese cars entering the Spanish and Portuguese markets are imported through Barcelona Port, with around 60% to 70% coming from Shanghai Port. A large part of the cars transported from Shanghai Port to Barcelona Port are new energy vehicles.
Green development is a common goal of China and Spain, both sides jointly promote the construction of international green shipping corridors, promote global shipping emissions reduction, and add momentum to the world's green transformation.
