President of Azerbaijan: China is an important strategic partner for Azerbaijan

On July 19th, Azerbaijani President Aliyev highly praised the relationship between Azerbaijan and China, stating that China is an important strategic partner of Azerbaijan.

Aliyev made this statement when answering questions from Xinhua News Agency reporters at the third Shusha Global Media Forum held in Hankund, Azerbaijan. He reviewed important events in recent bilateral relations, including two key documents signed with China, namely the Joint Statement on Establishing a Strategic Partnership signed in 2024 and the Joint Statement on Establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed in 2025. This marks a high level of mutual trust between the two countries, "he said.

Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and firmly supports the One China policy.

Aliyev talked about the active dialogue with Chinese officials at various levels and believed that "the prospects for cooperation between the two countries are broad". He pointed out that people to people exchanges between Azerbaijan and China are increasing, thanks to the signing of a visa free agreement between China and Azerbaijan, which will promote connections between students, entrepreneurs, and citizens.

Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan's firm support for the "the Belt and Road" initiative, and said that Azerbaijan has built the necessary transportation and logistics infrastructure to promote connectivity.

He pointed out that trade and transportation between Afghanistan and China are rapidly growing, and he believes that they will double in the coming years. In addition, new transportation channels, including the 'Middle Corridor', will further increase the flow of goods through Azerbaijan and strengthen its role as a link between the East and the West.

He stated that energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and China is constantly deepening, and Chinese companies are actively participating in the construction of green energy fields such as solar and wind energy in Azerbaijan.

On July 19th, the three-day third Shusha Global Media Forum kicked off in Hankende, with the theme of "Digital Transformation: Enhancing the Sustainability of Information and Media in the Age of Artificial Intelligence".
