Beijing, June 29th (Xinhua) -- China leads intelligent green transformation, cooperation is the only way
Author Lin Zhuowei
Human beings are transitioning towards sustainable development... We need to drive a new round of technological evolution with intelligence and greenness, "Professor Gong Ke, former president of Nankai University and executive director of the China New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy Research Institute, told the" China Foreign Dialogue "column during the 2025 Summer Davos Forum.
The forum was held in Tianjin from June 24th to 26th, during which the World Economic Forum's "2025 Top Ten Emerging Technologies Report" was also released. Multiple cutting-edge technologies such as collaborative sensing, green nitrogen fixation, and structural battery composite materials have been included in the list, making "emerging technologies" once again the focus of global attention.
The "China Foreign Dialogue" column specially invites Professor Gong Ke, Professor Catherine Daniel, Dean of the Cyber Research Institute at the Australian National University, and Frederick Fent, Chief Executive Editor of the Swiss journal Frontiers, to discuss technology trends and global collaboration.
Technology Fusion: Dual Variation of Intelligence and Green
Experts have observed that artificial intelligence is deeply integrated into the industrial fabric and accelerating its integration with green technology.
Professor Gong Ke pointed out that "this type of technology not only emphasizes intelligence, but also pays more attention to greening." In cutting-edge interdisciplinary fields such as nanomaterials, biological enzymes, and perovskites, a low-carbon and high-efficiency oriented technological revolution is being promoted.
As one of the core members of the writing team for the "2025 Top 10 Emerging Technologies Report" of this year's World Economic Forum, Dr. Fent strongly agrees with this and points out the urgency of promoting the implementation of related technologies, using green nitrogen fixation technology as an example: "Currently, about 1.7% of global energy consumption is used for synthetic ammonia production, and for every ton of ammonia produced, about 2.4 tons of carbon dioxide will be emitted." He believes that using biological or electrochemical pathways to replace traditional high-energy consuming processes can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the agricultural sector. The collision and fusion of cross disciplinary technologies such as these are a major focus of this report
Collaboration and Empowerment: Perception Network and Material Revolution
Collaborative perception technology is a typical example of this trend of technological integration and innovation.
Collaborative perception will become very important because it can facilitate the integration of these different categories of technologies that we see, such as achieving information sharing between robots, IoT devices, and digital terminals, laying the foundation for overall intelligent decision-making, and more conducive to our work in fields full of uncertainty, "Professor Daniel introduced to China News Network.
She further elaborated on the Australian forest fire prevention and control system as an example. By applying collaborative sensing technology, integrating satellite monitoring, drone reconnaissance, and emergency systems can significantly improve response efficiency and safety.
Examples of breakthrough innovation achieved through technological integration include structural battery composite materials. Daniel further pointed out that "this technology directly embeds energy storage functions into material structures (such as car bodies), which can significantly reduce weight and improve energy efficiency
She specifically pointed out that China is in a leading position globally in promoting new energy vehicles and building green and smart cities. It has great potential in promoting the development of emerging technologies such as structural batteries and will also provide practical experience for the world to learn from.
The inevitability of China's role and global cooperation
Looking ahead, Professor Gong Ke believes that China is already in a leading position in terms of photovoltaic installed capacity and artificial intelligence innovation, but this does not mean that it can tackle the challenges alone.
He emphasized that the complexity of technology and the global nature of climate issues determine that international cooperation is not an option, but a necessary path for development.
Even if China has the most complete range of industrial sectors, we are not the entirety of the world, "Gong Ke said." Solving the problems of intelligence and greening requires global participation
Dr. Fent also agrees, believing that although the current complex environment brings challenges, it may also give rise to disruptive innovation.
Gong Ke finally called for breaking down technological boundaries and building an open, shared, and win-win innovation ecosystem
He firmly believes that deepening international cooperation is the only way to lead the intelligent green transformation and achieve sustainable development. (End)
